We are delighted to have welcomed an international law student from Germany for a 3 weeks work experience placement this September.
Fabian Plessmann of Westfälische Wilhelms-Univeristät Münster (WWU) in Münster, Germany must participate in an international work experience programme to gain insight into the differing legal areas of the UK. The placement will provide practical experience that cannot be gained from university courses alone.
Fabian said “Even with the ‘Brexit’ coming up, the UK will still be an important partner for other European countries, especially for Germany, and that is why I find it vital to know the features and properties of its legal system. From the next semester on I want to specialise in international private law so my stay in Carlisle is an excellent preparation. A nice side effect is to become more confident in legal English as I could also imagine spending a semester abroad in an English-speaking country in the near future. However, I am also keen to explore parts of Northern England and Scotland I have never been to before.”
Baines Wilson is pleased to welcome Fabian to the firm and to be able to offer him this excellent opportunity. Joanne Holborn, Employment Partner at Baines Wilson sais “Baines Wilson offer work placements all year round to students who are studying for or considering a career in the legal sector. Fabian is our first international student and we are pleased to be able to offer Fabian this opportunity and that he chose Baines Wilson and Carlisle to undertake his international work placement.”
On why he chose Baines Wilson Fabian said “I chose to apply to Baines Wilson LLP for the areas of practice and the size of the law firm. I definitely wanted to find a middle-sized law firm that is small enough to have a personal and friendly atmosphere but busy enough to have a comprehensive experience. Baines Wilson LLP covers a wide range of services which is exactly what I was looking for. During my search for a work experience placement I found out a little bit more about Carlisle which left a lasting impression on me and I want to use the opportunity to see as much of the city and its history as possible.”
