Areas of Expertise
Naren has considerable experience in all key areas of commercial property law and practice. Naren started his career in London, where he acted primarily for a listed property investment fund. The fund acquired a portfolio of shopping centres and multi-tenant office space. Naren gained extensive experience in the acquisition, funding and disposal of investment property. As well as acquisitions and disposals, Naren was involved in the estate management work generated by the fund, dealing with the grant of leases, surrenders, licences to assign, licences to alter and other estate management work. Alongside the property fund, Naren acted for a number of private and institutional landlords in central London, including a sovereign wealth fund with significant property holdings in the Green Park area of London.
Naren acted for a family owned agricultural business supplying fresh fruit and salad to the UK’s leading food retailers. Much of the farmland was unregistered and Naren developed extensive experience in dealing with unregistered agricultural land. Holdings that were no longer required for food production operations were often brough forward for development and Naren frequently acted on behalf of the business in options, promotion agreements, collaboration and development agreements.
Naren then moved to a leading global law firm where he specialised in commercial and residential development work, now acting primarily on behalf of developers rather than landowners. Some notable projects include the regeneration of a number of town centres in the north of England. The projects typically involved stakeholders from both the public and private sectors and involved complex funding and security arrangements.
More recently, Naren headed up the north east real estate team at a national law firm. The team was active in a number of sectors, ranging from energy infrastructure to residential property development and real estate investment funds. In the last few years, Naren has taken a leading role in two notable renewable energy projects; the first being a peak power battery storage project on behalf of an electricity distribution network operator and the second being a electric vehicle charging network aiming to be the largest network in the UK.
Currently Naren undertakes a varied caseload with particular focus on real estate finance and residential development. Naren has acted for a wide variety of residential developers, ranging from very small scale, high value schemes, through to large, multi-phase, multi-developer schemes.
