Baines Wilson LLP, a law firm specialising in the provision of commercial legal services to the business community, continues to attract the next generation of talent with the appointment of trainee solicitor, Daniel Hails.

Daniel, who lives in Carlisle, grew up near Durham and completed his Masters in Law at Northumbria University, graduating with first class honours and also an honours roll after achieving grades in the top 10% of his year. His dissertation was published as an academic paper.

He discovered his passion for corporate and commercial law during his studies. His traineeship starts in the corporate and commercial department, then he will move to learn more about commercial property, employment and litigation – all of the areas the firm focuses on.

Aside from Baines Wilson’s expertise, which will give Daniel the perfect training ground, its locations in Carlisle and Lancaster gave him an added incentive to apply.

“I’ve always been a country-bound person so being near the Lake District was the way forward,” said Daniel, who’s a keen walker, golfer and mountaineer.

“The specialisms of Baines Wilson and their engaging approach made them the perfect choice for me and I’m delighted to join the team. I’m looking forward to the exciting challenges ahead and to my future with the firm.”

Sean Logue, Head of Partnership and Baines Wilson’s Training Principal, said: “We are delighted to have Daniel join the team. Our trainees are the future of the firm and our ongoing support to our local business community. While the current economic climate remains challenging, this is our long-term strategy and we are committed to training the next generation.

“Providing commercial legal solutions for the business community enables us to offer those starting their career the type of training which is unrivalled elsewhere. Our trainees work closely with and under the supervision of our senior lawyers, meet a wide range of the fantastic businesses operating within Cumbria and Lancashire at an early stage and have the added benefit of living in a beautiful location.

“We are passionate about promoting the region as a great place to work as well as live. The area boasts world class businesses and is a great place to pursue a rewarding legal career.”

As part of its ongoing trainee programme, the firm has a further trainee solicitor joining in September 2021 and has already recruited trainees for 2022. Applications close for 2023 on 30 June. For further information on the application process visit or contact Stephanie Bradley
