Due to the third national lockdown announced on 4 January, the Government has issued stay at home guidance, including a legal requirement for employees to work at home where possible. Employers must take steps to facilitate remote working where possible. Shielding also comes back in to force for the extremely vulnerable.
It is still possible to carry out jobs that genuinely cannot be carried out remotely and employers are reminded that where employees must go into work, the COVID-19 secure guidelines must be followed to reduce transmission risk.
School closures were also enforced as part of the new lockdown and following calls for extra support for working parents, they are now eligible for furlough as a result of caring responsibilities. The furlough scheme is currently set to run until the end of April.
