Extension to filing of accounts

Business will be given an additional 3 months to file accounts with Companies House to help companies avoid penalties, as they deal with the impact of COVID-19

Companies House have announced that from today (25 March 2020), businesses will be able to apply for a 3-month extension for filing their accounts.

Companies will have to apply for this extension; however it is said that those citing issues around COVID-19 will be automatically and immediately granted an extension.  Applications can be made through a fast-tracked online system which will take 15 minutes to complete.  To apply you will just need:

  • your company number;
  • email address;
  • information about the reasons for an extension; and
  • documentation to support your application (optional)

Applications must be sent before your normal filing deadline.  If the application is approved, then Companies House will not issue a late filing penalty.
