Bay Business Angels hits the £1M mark for investment in local businesses

Now in its second year, Bay Business Angels, a group that provides start-ups and new businesses with ‘Angel’ investment, has seen businesses in South Cumbria and North Lancaster raise over £1M of investment.

The group attracts a high quality and diverse range of businesses to their events with past pitchers covering sectors including manufacturing, digital, food & drink, agriculture, technology and many more.   In a reflection of the high quality of businesses that have pitched to the Business Angels, on average 60% of businesses receive investment offers.

Bay Business Angels is the only business angels investment network in the North Lancashire and South Cumbria area.

The group is backed by some of the leading businesses in Cumbria and Lancashire including top ten ranked and International University of the Year*, Lancaster University and its highly reputable Management School. A partnership that enables the Bay Business Angels network to offer unique support and fantastic opportunities to businesses that it engages with.

Pete Cornwall from Lancaster University Management School said “We are really pleased with the success of the Bay Business Angels group. To have such a high percentage of businesses generate serious financial interest from some of the North’s leading investors demonstrates the high quality of businesses and entrepreneurs in the Bay area.  We have excellent, innovative and vibrant young companies in the North West and the high number of investments secured show we can rival the traditional major centres for business start-ups.

The University and its Management School are pleased to be involved in the Bay Business Angels group to further engage with and support young and growing companies looking for investment in the area”

Other leading businesses involved in the group are Commercial law firm Baines Wilson, accountants MHA Moore and Smalley and Baldwins, NatWest, Barclays and Manchester based Access to Finance.

The next investment event will be held on 31 October at Lancaster University Management School.
