Joanne Holborn

Position: Partner - Head of Employment and Employment Training

Main Areas of Work:

Joanne has throughout her career acted on behalf of business in the Employment Tribunals around the country and is a  seasoned advocate. Joanne has handled cases on behalf of a wide range of private and public sector employers. Her case load has been varied and has included mass redundancy situations and workplace closures, dismissal of senior executives and compromise agreements, allegations of discrimination on the grounds of race, sex, sexual orientation, disability and equal pay. Joanne also has a special interest in health at work and has lectured on this topic at Nottingham University. Joanne has developed and delivered bespoke training programmes for a number of clients.

Joanne has been involved in organising an annual health conference in the North East that has attracted high profile speakers and national interest. Joanne has also addressed a number of conferences and seminars, particularly on the subjects of fitness for work, managing sickness absence, stress, occupational health and health promotion at work.

Joanne is used to advising businesses on day to day employment issues and clients are able to benefit from Joanne's practical and pragmatic approach to deal with all their HR and legal queries.  

Joanne believes in building relationships with her clients and really getting to know their businesses so she is able to work in partnership with them to deliver the best results to suit their needs.

Career:

Joanne specialises in Employment Law. Joanne graduated with Honours from the University of Northumbria at Newcastle and was admitted to the roll of Solicitors in 1995.

Joanne completed her training in private practice with a firm of solicitors from the Tees Valley area, and continued to work in private practice, specialising in Employment Law and Personal Injury, until she joined EEF Northern Association in January 2001. Joanne was Head of the Legal Department for EEF Northern, a ‘business only’ employers' organisation, before relocating to Cumbria to join Baines Wilson.

Joanne has also been actively involved in employment law training development and delivery during her career.

Joanne is a member of the Employment Tribunal User Group for the Regional Office of Employment Tribunals in Newcastle and a member of the Employment Lawyers' Association.

Personal:

Joanne enjoys adrenaline sports in the outdoors including kite surfing and mountain biking.
