A TEAM of 8 staff completed the 10in10 mountain challenge in the Lake District this Saturday.
The challenge involved walking 17 miles over 10 peaks in 10 hours and involved 2,045 metres of ascent to raise money for the MS Society. The first members of the team completed the event in 8 hours and 50 minutes, however, we were delighted that all team members successfully completed the course.
Of the eight staff taking on the 10 in 10 there was varying degrees of hill walking experience. A couple were seasoned (if out of practice) fell walkers, while others had never before set foot on a fell!
The effort that the team has put in collectively in training for and then completing the event has been phenomenal and they are delighted to have tripled their donation target to £3,000, which has made the effort and blisters worthwhile!
We want to thank their sponsors for their support and good wishes and many of the donations came from local Cumbrian businesses.
It’s the third charitable event that our staff have taken part in this year, meaning that the firm has managed to raise more than £17,000 for charities in just 6 months, including Cumbria Community Foundation.
John Wilson, Partner and Head of Corporate Law, said: “We would like to thank Yvonne and Duncan Booth for organising the event, all the volunteers, other participators and of course our sponsors. It was a great day and fantastic experience for us all. To describe this as a “walk” is a bit of a misnomer but it is most definitely a challenge! But one we will do again and which we would recommend to other businesses and groups.”
The team included: John Wilson from Keswick, Lindsay Malthouse from Braithwaite, Duncan Harty, Stephanie Bradley, Andrew Hill and Tom Scaife all from Carlisle, Martha Winn from Maryport and Kath Sibley from Ulverston.
The 10in10 is an annual walking challenge created by Yvonne Booth, from Keswick. She started the event in 2011 in response to her husband Duncan’s diagnosis with the debilitating disease. Every year 400 people take part in the event which has raised £169,000 over the years for research into Multiple Sclerosis.
