We are pleased to welcome Katy Sturgeon to the team as a new Trainee Solicitor. Katy is the latest addition to our expanding team and part of our Trainee programme, which hopes to attract developing talent to the firm.
Sean Logue who heads up the Commercial Property team and is the firm’s Training Principal said
“We want to demonstrate to young people from the area and other regions that you can have a fantastic career in Cumbria and receive superb training in the county. This year we hope to take on a further trainee in September and we are also currently recruiting for two traineeships in 2019 and 2020. We offer work experience programmes during the Easter, summer and Christmas holidays for students looking for a career in law and are delighted to welcome 3 students over the next six weeks.
As a local firm we have been providing exceptional training for young lawyers for a number of years. Tom Scaife who originally came to the firm on a work experience placement has since trained with the firm and is now a Partner in the Employment Team.
Providing legal services to our local business community we can offer trainees the type of training which would otherwise only be available in one of the large cities, such as Newcastle or Manchester.
We want to promote Cumbria as a great place to do business and to have a legal career.”
Katy joined the firm in early March and will start her training contract in the Commercial Property team working closely with Partners Sean Logue, Duncan Harty and Laura Barnfield. The Commercial property team at Baines Wilson is one of the largest in the North West with 8 lawyers providing real estate services to the business community.
Katy graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University with a degree in Law and is currently studying her Legal Practitioners Course at the same university. Katy has strong roots in Cumbria having been brought up in Dalton-in-Furness and recently moving to Carlisle.
